The Lotus Flower is a charity dedicated to supporting women and girls who have been affected by conflict and displacement. Founded in 2016 by Taban Shoresh, a former child genocide survivor, the organisation has significantly impacted over 84,000 lives. The charity operates both in the UK and Iraq, focusing on sustainable development goals through its four main pillars: Education & Livelihoods, Health & Safety, Peacebuilding & Human Rights, and Climate Change.
The Lotus Flower is deeply committed to gender equality and engages the entire community, including men, boys, and community leaders, to support women and girls. The charity’s approach is community-driven, allowing those they help to actively participate in shaping the solutions to their challenges. This innovative method ensures that the support provided leads to long-lasting transformation.
The founder, Taban Shoresh, has been recognised for her outstanding services to refugees and conflict survivors with an OBE in 2024. Her personal experiences and leadership drive the charity’s mission forward, making The Lotus Flower a beacon of hope and change for those it serves.
