The Old Pawn Shop is a bar restaurant and wine bar located in a historic building that once served as a jewellery and pawn shop. Owned by Paul and Shaun, who are noted for their work in hospitality design, this venue has been meticulously restored to preserve its original features while adding modern safety and practicality. The interior includes two small rooms at the back: the ‘map room’, adorned with old maps, and ‘the snug’, which offers intimate booth seating and can be reserved for private dining and cocktails. Both rooms feature open fires, enhancing the cosy atmosphere during winter.
Chef and proprietor Mehdi Silver, a local who returned to Hastings after a career in performing arts, heads the kitchen. The menu he has crafted focuses on small plates, cheese, charcuterie, and fish platters, sourcing ingredients from local suppliers like Rock-a-Nore Fisheries and Judges Bakery. The wine list is concise but carefully curated, complementing the food offerings.
