Flamenco Workshop Update – Postponed Until Autumn

Due to changes in the summer programme schedule, this participatory flamenco workshop will now be postponed until the autumn. We look forward to bringing the session back later in the year and creating an even more relaxed and welcoming opportunity for people to experience the joy of flamenco together.

Led by experienced flamenco practitioner Fenella Barker , this beginner-friendly and inclusive workshop offers an accessible introduction to flamenco movement, rhythm and expression. Designed for people of all ages and abilities, the session prioritises participation, learning and enjoyment over performance, making it ideal for those with little or no previous dance experience.

Participants will be guided through the foundations of flamenco practice, including posture, simple footwork, rhythmic clapping ( palmas ), and the expressive use of the arms and upper body. Activities are introduced in clear, progressive stages, allowing individuals to build confidence, coordination and creative awareness at their own pace.

The workshop explores flamenco as a rich cultural art form rooted in community, history and emotional expression. Through guided movement and rhythm, participants discover how dance can communicate feeling and tell stories, encouraging cultural understanding, wellbeing and creative self-expression.

Delivered in an inclusive and supportive environment, the session encourages active participation, listening and shared experience. By removing the pressure to perform and focusing instead on embodied learning and exploration, the workshop promotes positive mental wellbeing, social connection and access to high-quality cultural activity.

As part of the wider Hidden Beach programme, the workshop contributes to our ongoing commitment to community engagement, cultural participation and making the arts accessible to all. We look forward to welcoming participants this autumn for an inspiring and uplifting shared experience through movement, rhythm and connection.
