JazzHastings presents Tony Kofi & Denys Baptiste at Barnaby’s Lounge — a heavyweight close‑up performance exploring the spirit, fire and lyricism of Coltrane and Cannonball.
Two of the UK’s most powerful and influential saxophonists share the stage for this special project. Tony Kofi — MOBO Award winner, multi‑British Jazz Award winner and former member of the legendary Jazz Warriors — is renowned for his huge sound, fearless improvisation and deep connection to the Coltrane tradition. His career includes work with Ornette Coleman, Donald Byrd, The World Saxophone Quartet, Abdullah Ibrahim, and the BBC Big Band, making him one of the most respected figures in British jazz .
Denys Baptiste, Mercury‑nominated and a British Jazz Award winner , is celebrated for his expansive, soulful approach and his ability to fuse jazz history with contemporary expression. His landmark albums Be Where You Are and Let Freedom Ring established him as one of the UK’s most original voices, with collaborations including McCoy Tyner, Billy Higgins, Julian Joseph, Jason Rebello, and the Jazz Warriors.
Together, Kofi and Baptiste explore the contrasting brilliance of John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderley — two giants whose musical personalities shaped modern jazz. Expect deep improvisation, soulful intensity and serious jazz history brought vividly to life.
